I would like to make this post in memory of Trooper shawn Blanton. Trooper Blanton was murdered during a routine traffic stop on I 40 on June 17, 2008. Trooper Blanton left behind a wife and newborn son. Trooper Blanton's son, Tye, sadly passed away at the age of 4 months.

As many people know, I am going to be a law enforcement officer after I graduate from college. Many may not like law enforcement officers because it seems as if all we do is either write you a ticket or arrest you, but many of you do not look at the other side of law enforcement. We are there to protect you from harm so you can live a normal life. We willingly put our lives on the line to serve you, your family, and your friends. So you may curse us for writing you a ticket, just remember that when you or one of your friends is in danger(and they can't protect themselves) we will be there to answer their call and to save them from danger. You may still hate us after we do you a favor, but we will still willingly risk our lives daily just so you can live the life that you desire.

Sometimes accepting punishment is a good thing

A few nights ago, in my hometown, two teenagers decided to run from the police. I do not know the details of why they were running, but the teenagers decided that trying to get away was a better alternative than the punishment. These teens decided to speed in excess of 90 mph down a sideroad to get away from the police. Instead the driver lost control of the car and hit a firehydrant. both occupants of the car were ejected from the car, and both had to be emergency airlifted to a nearby hospital. One of the occupants should be relaeased soon, while the other has already had an arm amputated. The one amputee is also awaiting future brain operations, and will not live a normal life for the duration of her life. Obviously these teens thought it was a good idea to run from the police, but I would like to know what they think now. Sometimes the punishment given by the judicial system is not as bad as the alternative predicament. These teens did not know what was going to happent to them that night, but I am sure that both teens and their families would have rather had both teens reprimanded by the police than laying in a hospital bed with their futures uncertain. Sometimes having to call mom and dad to tell them that you messed up is a lot better than the alternatives.
